OPEN ACCESS POLICY

The Open Access policy is a relatively recent development in academic publishing. It proposes a model for academic publishing that enables immediate, worldwide, barrier-free, open access to the full text of research articles for the best interests of the scientific community. All interested readers can read, download, and/or print any Open Access article, without requiring a subscription to the journal in which these articles are published.

In this Open Access model, the publication costs are usually covered by the author's institution or from research funds. These Open Access charges replace subscription charges and allow the publishers to give the published material away for free to all interested online visitors.

As an author of a paper submitted to Advances in Electrical and Computer Engineering journal, you have to transfer the copyright of your paper prior to the evaluation process. The copyright transfer covers all rights to referee, translate, publish, digitize, archive, reproduce and distribute, including reprints, photographic reproduction, microform, or any other reproductions of similar nature. For details please see the Copyright Transfer Form.

By signing the Copyright Transfer you still retain substantial rights, such as self-archiving. Bellow are summarized some of the right the author(s) retain along with some things they are not allowed to do.

The author rights INCLUDE:

- The right to make printed copies of the article for own personal use, including for own classroom teaching use;
- The right to make printed copies and distribute copies of the article to research colleagues, for the personal use by such colleagues (but not commercially or systematically, e.g., via an e-mail list or listserv);
- The right to present the article at a meeting or conference and to distribute printed copies of such paper or article to the delegates attending the meeting;
- Patent and trademark rights and rights to any process or procedure described in the article;
- The right to include the article in full or in part in a thesis or dissertation (provided that this is not to be published commercially);
- The right to use the article or any part thereof in a printed compilation of works of the author, such as collected writings or lecture notes (subsequent to publication of the article in AECE);
- The right to prepare other derivative works, to extend the article into book-length form, or to otherwise reuse portions or excerpts in other works, with full acknowledgment of its original publication in AECE;
- The right to self-archive the work by posting the work as the final peer-reviewed author's manuscript (but not the published layout) on their own website and their institution's website (website only, NOT repository) no earlier than 6 months after print publication in AECE.

What you are expressly NOT ALLOWED to do:

- Do not post the full article PDF file downloaded from the AECE web-site to any other web-site(s). Instead, you may use a link to the article page using the permanent link by using the Digital Object Identifier (doi:) link http://dx.doi.org/AECE-paper-doi (every article has a DOI number assigned - see the one assigned to your paper);
- Do not publish the same paper, or papers including significant portions of it, in any other journal (remember the clauses in the Copyright form you signed before publication);

For questions regarding the open access policy, please contact us by using the information on the Support page.
